What advice would you give the character? When and why?

The advice that i would give to the main character would be not to lie. I am reading The Secret Life of Bees and Lily is the main character. When she ran away from home and found a new family, she didn't tell them who she really was. I understand why she did what she did, but she still should have told the truth from the beginning. Instead she makes up a whole other life story that is totally different from her real life. She didn't even have to lie anyways because the three sisters that she lived with knew who she was. I think that if she didn't lie she would have been better off from the beginning. Instead she was worrying all the time on when she was going to tell them the truth. It is always better to tell the truth no matter what because when you don't you are just making things worse for yourself and the people around you.

Why does Lily not tell August about her life before, why does she lie?

Lily lied about everything to August and her two sisters from the beginning. Later in the book she would still not tell anything about her past. I think she does this because she does not want them to know who she really is. She is afraid that if they no about her real life they will not like her. Lily is still regreting her past. August even knows that Lily is keeping something big out. I think that Lily should have told them from the beginning because they are nice woman. I think they would have still accepted her. Lily just needed to put the past behind her and live in the future.

Ever sinceLily was a little kid life has been very tragic, between her accidentally killing her mother and her abusive father. The only person that really loves her is Rosaleen, but once she gets in trouble and put in jail Lily has no one. Lily soon goes to find Rosaleen and they both runaway together andend up at a bee farm. The people that live there are three black sisters who take in Lily and Rosaleen. One of the sisters names is May and she has emotional issues. Whatever pain the world is in she feels it all. So she created a stone wall and wrote down all the tragic things that have happened on paper and put it in the wall. Lily soon found out and read one. This quote was from that scene when she is reading it and she feels like she has found the most incredible place ever. There are so many emotions where Lily is staying now and most of them are happy, she is not used to this. She feels as if this place is a place of something real. A place where lives are changed forever.
I feel like Lily's life is finally coming together. She has found what she enjoys doing and she will not give it away easily. Everyone at the farm has changed her into a better person even if she does not think so. Her life was so tragic before that she does not know how to deal with all the good things that are happening to her. She will soon learn though. This quote is saying that Lily has not only found a perfect place, but she has found her life again since her mother died. She can now let go of all her guilt and anger.
